{"id":2019,"date":"2011-04-21T03:00:30","date_gmt":"2011-04-21T03:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/findfreightloads.com\/blog\/?p=2019"},"modified":"2011-04-21T03:00:30","modified_gmt":"2011-04-21T03:00:30","slug":"forecast-good-times-won%e2%80%99t-last-long","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/findfreightloads.com\/blog\/forecast-good-times-won%e2%80%99t-last-long\/","title":{"rendered":"Forecast: Good times won\u2019t last long"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.findfreightloads.com\/\">Trucking companies<\/a> should take advantage of today\u2019s economic recovery because it will be relatively brief by historical standards, and then the economy will fall back into recession, an FTR Associates economist forecast said April 19 in a CCJ online seminar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou better make hay now because after two or three years we\u2019ll be right back in recession,\u201d said Noel Perry, FTR managing director and senior consultant. \u201cYou only have a few years to put aside savings you\u2019ll need for the next downturn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One reason he\u2019s pessimistic is the weak housing <a href=\"http:\/\/freightbrokerscourse.com\/products\/freight-broker-training\/\">industry outlook<\/a>. Housing ownership is down and housing starts will remain low for many years to come. Construction and housing, which accounts for 14 percent of trucking freight, represented 37 percent of trucking\u2019s decline since 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Another problem that will make for a volatile market is the high level of federal debt and its impact on long-term interest rates. \u201cSometime in this decade, probably after the next election, we\u2019re going to have to confront this problem,\u201d Perry said.<\/p>\n<p>Until that happens, trucking stands to prosper in the next few years.
