{"id":2550,"date":"2011-06-17T03:22:49","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T03:22:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/findfreightloads.com\/blog\/?p=2550"},"modified":"2011-06-17T03:22:49","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T03:22:49","slug":"trucking-reps-hit-hours-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/findfreightloads.com\/blog\/trucking-reps-hit-hours-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Trucking reps hit hours plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The title, \u201cDo Not Enter: How Proposed Hours of Service <a href=\"http:\/\/www.findfreightloads.com\/\">Trucking <\/a>Rules are a Dead End for Small Businesses,\u201d summarized the June 14 U.S. House subcommittee hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The Small Business Committee Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight and Regulations heard testimony from trucking company leaders against the HOS Notice of Proposed Rulemaking.<\/p>\n<p>Subcommittee Chairman Mike Coffman, (R-Colo.) convened the hearing to explore the<a href=\"http:\/\/freightbrokerscourse.com\/products\/freight-broker-training\/\"> Federal Motor Carrier Safety<\/a> Administration\u2019s proposal. It would reduce the daily driving limit, decrease the maximum on-duty time limit, require mandatory breaks and change the current 34-hour restart provision.<\/p>\n<p>Truck-related crashes have dropped more than 40 percent since the current HOS rules were implemented in 2003. But the FMCSA created the \u201ccomplicated and cumbersome\u201d NPRM, based on outdated truck-related crash figures, Coffman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven more disturbing is that it is estimated that there will be a cost of $2.5 billion annually on the industry if the proposed hours of service regulations are finalized,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>James Burg, president of James Burg <a href=\"http:\/\/freightbrokerscourse.com\/products\/freight-broker-training\/\">Trucking <\/a>Co. and an American Trucking Associations board member, said the proposal would restrict productivity and increase congestion and emissions.
